Chapter Eighteen
It was two days later when, feeling trapped at her desk, Lyra got another message from Kaden. Waiting on the insurance and unable to do more about his restaurant just now, he was keen to help her out.
Immediately she messaged him back, asking him to let Maggie know when heâd like to come so she could arrange transport. Her assistant had picked up the reins that Symon unwillingly dropped and was doing a great job despite the loss of support from some of the agentâs contacts. The varying reasons they werenât committing to more shows right now did not sit well with Lyra or Maggie.
Lyra didnât regret firing him, but her life had changed, and she was tense because of it. The first night after the break-in, she stayed at Maggieâs. The key code was changed immediately, and the manager agreed to beef up security, so she went back to her apartment the next evening. Sheâd told Maggie and Dan it was what she wanted, which was a lie. This was more about not giving in to the fear rather than feeling safe, but she wasnât sure the fear would ever go away.
Symon hadnât been in contact despite Lyra knowing he was questioned by the police. And now it was as if she was waiting for something awful to happen, with no idea of when or what it might look like.
While grateful for Maggieâs and Danâs concern, Lyraâs frustration grew at never being alone unless she was in bed. Cinnamon didnât mind the extra company, but she too was anxious over the change to their routine. Which was why Lyra sent Maggie to look for a new apartment.
Lyra stared out to the kitchen where her staff were working hard. Cinnamon nuzzled her hand, and she leaned down to hug her. âIâve got so much to be grateful for. Iâve got to get out of this funk.â
Cinnamon gazed at her lovingly and woofed gently.
âI need to focus on something else, and goodness knows there are plenty of other things that need my attention.â
The head tilt followed by another woof motivated Lyra to go through her to-do list once more.
An hour later her phone buzzed, and she grinned at the text from Kaden. Finally, some good news.
Colin, Angie, and I are headed to the airport. I hope you donât mind, but you did say come when we could. Maggie already called to say your pilot is on his way. Talk about traveling in style! Weâre looking forward to the break and are itching to see La Joliesse in person. Did you manage to find us a place to stay? If not, just point us in the direction of a reasonable hotel. See you in a few hours.
She replied instantly.
Fantastic! Accommodation is sorted. See you soon. X
It wasnât a lie. Maggie had already told her that everything was under control, and to prove the point, a message from her assistant popped up to confirm everything.
Just hearing from Kaden helped ease the hurt and anger over Symon.
